5 questions to ask your wedding photographer before booking!!!

Choosing the right wedding photographer is crucial. We’re responsible for delivering the memories, a batch of photos that is one of the few things from your day that you actually keep to look back on in years to come.

Asking the right questions can help ensure you find someone who fits your style, expectations, budget and vibe (you wanna have a good time, right?).

Here are five questions to ask before booking your wedding photographer:

1. What is your photography style, and can you provide examples of your work?

  • Why it matters: Photographers often have distinct styles, such as traditional, documentary, editorial, or fine art. It’s important to make sure their style aligns with the aesthetic you envision for your wedding photos.

I’d class myself as a documentary style wedding photographer. I look to capture the day as it happens with natural shots, emotions and moments. I will of course use prompts with my couples to capture them in the best way and bring their personalities out in photos. You can see examples of my work here.

2. How many weddings have you photographed, and will you be the one shooting my wedding?

  • Why it matters: Experience matters when it comes to handling the dynamics of a wedding day. You want someone who knows how to anticipate moments, work with a variety of lighting conditions, and manage the timeline.
  • What to listen for: A photographer with experience in weddings is a must, and if they have a team, make sure they’re the lead photographer, or ask if you’ll meet with the person who will be taking your photos.

3. What is included in your wedding photography packages, and are there any additional fees?

  • Why it matters: Understanding what’s included in your package will help you avoid surprise costs later. This might include the number of hours, number of photographers, albums, prints, and digital files.

I like to give 100% transparency on my pricing. If you visit my website you will see my price packages as well as any enhancements that you can add on. I also try to be as flexible as possible to help my couples get what they want from their photography package. You can see my packages here.

4. What is your backup plan in case of an emergency or equipment failure?

  • Why it matters: Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events, and you want to ensure there’s a backup plan if something goes wrong, whether it’s with equipment or even the photographer being unable to attend.

I have an extensive list of fellow photographers that I can turn to incase of emergency where I can no longer be available for the big day. With equipment, I carry multiples of everything. Cameras, lenses, flash guns and memory cards are all double up, just in case.

5. How long after the wedding can I expect to receive my photos, and how will they be delivered?

  • Why it matters: You’ll want to know how long you’ll need to wait for your wedding photos and what the delivery process will look like. Some photographers offer sneak peeks, while others may take longer to complete the full gallery.

I always give a timeline on photos. I aim to deliver sneak peaks within in 48 hours with the full gallery getting to my couples inbox within 4-6 weeks depending on how busy I am. I cover this before booking and try my best to keep people up to date throughout the process if I feel the timeline is extending.

I want to give clear answers to any questions you have and do my best to put you at ease when considering booking me for your big day. Interested in booking me as your wedding photographer? drop you details here and let’s chat.
